[Keichu-Do, Keichu-Ryu, American Karate Style]

One definition of the Keichu-Do style:
The original American Karate self-defense system. Hits and kicks cause terrible pain to an attacker as the intended victim defends themself. Founded by Karl William Marx Senior, PhD, in the state of Louisiana, America, Keichu-Do/Keichu-Ryu (Cajun self-defense) is recognized internationally as a valid Karate style, and as the earliest original and unique American Karate style. Since many fights begin without warning and a victim is knocked down, grappling and self-defense from vulnerable positions (such as lying on your back) are taught in this unique "Cajun Karate" style. Keichu-Do Karate is designed for Americans and the way Americans fight. Small people and women can use this original American Karate style for simple self-defense against rape, mugging, and even suprise attacks. Strength and atheletic skills are not needed as much as with other forms of self-defense.
(See expanded definition in the Keichu-Do FAQ.)

Definition of "Keichu-Do":
Total devotion to the way.

Press Release:

Posted February 27, 2005:

A Brief Introduction to Keichu-Do for the Master's Series:  Project 2005 event
by Dr. Karl William Marx Sr. Founder

Keichu-Do is a Cajun street fighting art coming from the Bayou and swamp land of Louisiana. This form of self-defense is rather unique in that unlike oriental martial arts, Keichu focuses on the realistic approach. Keichu is not just another style developed by someone with a limited experience and background. Instead, Keichu is an empirical, scientifically-based American street fighting system.

While Keichu is not a sport-intensive martial arts style, many students have used the principles taught within the system for that purpose.  In fact, Keichu students from beginner level to master level have won numerous state, regional, national championships as well as 300 international championship titles.

Some Comparisons:
While many martial artists opt for the standard head/face or groin strike and upper body kick, a Keichu practitioner may choose to strike areas of the body that will cause a cascading, destructive crumbling of the assailant's body. For example, a Keichu stylist might strike an attacker's hand to break the metacarpals, therefore causing tremendous, incapacitating pain. The Keichu system of self-defense contains techniques designed to break certain bones on the assailant. This may sound rather cruel, however stopping a dangerous situation before it becomes deadly, is a smarter choice. Breaking a little bone in a strategic area will stop the fight before serious injury occurs.

This is a foundational difference between Keichu and many other "mainstream" martial arts styles. Is it not better to defend yourself and secure a victory in three seconds rather than rumble in a fifteen minute punch, kick, and scratch duel?  Which would you rather do?  Come on! your able to read this right? Ok! If you are smart enough to read you are smart enough to understand the reasoning of choosing the proven tactics of the street-smart, street-effective Keichu martial arts system.

The no-nonsense techniques of Keichu may not be as visually attractive or flowery as other more traditional arts and if you are seeking beauty and flash, Keichu is not for you. HOWEVER, if you desire practical, no nonsense just knock-em out techniques, that's KEICHU!  Plain and simple, with no "filler" or frills. With Keichu, you learn tried and proven techniques, rather than visually spectacular, Hollywood-based martial arts fluff.

It takes a year to learn the basic techniques, but a lifetime to grasp the underlying principles of Keichu. Someone once said, "Knowledge is better used if skill is perfected."

More on this "Cajun" System:
As the founder, my intention is to develop a special kind of training attitude in each and every individual that studies Keichu. You see, self-Defense is not a part time when you have time, kind of past time.  Learning to defend one's self and others is something that demands mental, physical, and spiritual discipline.  To most people, sports such as soccer, basketball, baseball, and football will seem to be more exciting to the practitioner. Spectators and participants are screaming, hollering, clapping and with other encouraging side line antics it's easy to see why most, especially children and teenagers, are pulled to those sports. IT'S ALL JUST CHILD'S PLAY!!  And even if a player becomes a sports super star who makes millions of dollars a year, what good is all that, if you end up dead from substance abuse, or in prison?  Training in the martial arts is something that has an ETERNAL impact on the lives of not only the practitioner, but also the victim who is being helped AND the attacker (is it not better to use martial arts tactics of assailant neutralization rather than pulling out a weapon and killing someone?).  STOP PLAYING SPORTS AND START PRACTICING THE MARTIAL ARTS!!

There are so many dangers in this sin filled world. Self-defense is a life time objective. Training never stops.  Do you discontinue your health, home, or car insurance just because you have never had to use it? Of course not! Self-defense training is a educational endeavor that might well protect all your other education accomplishments. I pray you never have to use the more aggressive techniques of the martial arts, however, like insurance it is a blessing to have when the need arises.

So that's another wrap from the Cajun street fighter. May God Bless you and yours.

I'm looking forward to meeting and training with all of you in Indianapolis on April 2.

Keep Christ Jesus FIRST in ALL YOU do.

In Christ Jesus I remain His servant-
